Aluizio Prata – Honorary President (In Memoriam)

Professor Aluízio Prata (MD 1945, PhD 1957) is a Senior Professor and probably the most recognized Brazilian Researcher for Tropical Medicine in Brazil, and abroad. He is one of the founders of the Brazilian Society of Tropical Medicine and has Chaired the Society from 1968-1970. He is an Emeritus (and former Full) Professor of the Federal Universities of Bahia and Brasilia and, currently, is a Full Professor of Tropical Medicine at the Medical School of the Triângulo Mineiro University, having established major services for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases in all these Institutions. He is, also, the Editor of the Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical and published over 270 scientific articles in medical journals in Brazil and abroad, 180 abstracts in annals of national and international congresses, 40 book chapters, and seven books. His main fields of interest in Infectious and Parasitic Disease are shistosomiasis, Chagas Disease, leishmaniasis, and malaria. He organized several scientific events in Brazil and has participated, upon invitation, in 75 international scientific events and 390 round-tables and conferences in meetings and congresses in Brazil. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Medicine and of the Brazilian Academy of Science and Gram Cruz of the Scientific Merit of the Brazilian Presidency. Professor Prata has mentored and taught hundreds of experts in this field, and has supervised 13 PhD thesis and 22 Master degree thesis.
